The Mind Diet–“Food for Thought”
As we all know, we are what we eat; therefore, it makes perfect sense that we should research what we need to eat to keep our minds happy and healthy.
Have you read the book “The Mind Diet,” a book published in 2016 by Ulysses Press and written by acclaimed food expert and registered dietician, Maggie Moon?
“What is the Mind Diet?”
The Mind Diet is a combination of the acclaimed Mediterranean Diet and the Dash Diet. The name “MIND” Diet is an acronym for Mediterranean Dash Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay.” The Mind Diet was created to prevent or delay the onset of dementia.
What foods are included in the MIND Diet? Included in the diet are leafy green vegetables, all kinds of berries, (other fruits are forbidden), nuts, and. olive oil as well as whole grains, fish, poultry, beans and, yes, even a daily glass of wine! Foods to avoid are red meat, butter, margarine, cheese, pastries, sweets, fried foods and fast food! For more details, you the readers are encouraged to read some of the articles on the MIND Diet found on the internet. Some of the people who have changed their eating habits to accommodate the Mind Diet have seen improvement in their mental health in as little as seven days or less!
When getting used to a new way of eating, I think it is best to try a diet slowly. For instance, I am putting myself on this diet so I had a bowl of pinto beans for dinner tonight. I love beans so tonight’s dinner was no problem. When I start replacing desserts with berries, the challenge will begin! Oh, well, that is a small price to pay for prevention or delay of dementia!
So, Dear Readers, I wish you “Bon Appetit” or as the 6 year old daughter of a friend of mine says, “Bone of Appetite!”
Until next time,
Love from your friend Hope
