Laughter Is The Best ….
What if I told you about a remarkable medicine that increased your immunity, fought stress, relaxed your muscles and reduced pain or even eliminated it completely for two hours and promoted sleep. The medicine has no side effects, is free and does not need a prescription. Oh, and you could actually have a ball using this medicine! Would you want to try it? I bet you would!
Okay, so what is this medicine? It is simple LAUGHTER!!!! Yes, you heard me right. It is laughter!
When was the first time you heard someone say, “Laughter is the best medicine?” That quotation originated in the fourteenth century when Dr. Henri de Mondeville, a famous surgeon, said it as he promoted his post surgical practice of getting patients to laugh after surgery!
Women are reputed to laugh a little more often every day than men. An average adult laughs about 17 times a day. Babies outdo adults many times because babies laugh 300 times a day!
The editor of “Saturday Review,” Norman Cousins, even wrote a book called “Anatomy of an Illness” about how laughter cured him of a life-threatening illness.
Modern research is proving more and more how beneficial laughter is for patients and for people trying to prevent health problems. Loma Linda University in California has done much research on laughter’s therapeutic qualities. Dr. Lee Bark, a professor at Loma Linda, has proven how mirthful laughter (not superficial nervous laughter) promotes HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol) and causes people to produce dopamine, serotonin and endorphins. Dr. Bark has stated, “Norman Cousins once wrote, ‘Of all the gifts bestowed by nature on human beings, hearty laughter must come close to the top.’ This gift, of both joy and healing, is something that can bring us together and allow us to experience the happiness God longs for us to feel.”
Dear Friends, let’s put on our daily agenda plans to laugh more.
Until next time, let’s laugh and be merry. The life you save, may be your own!
